Krafts Looking at Soccer Stadium Sites in Boston for the New England Revolution
Sources tell the Boston Globe that the Krafts are looking at sites for a soccer stadium in Boston for the New England Revolution.

The groundwork to construct a soccer specific stadium in Boston for the New England Revolution may be quietly underway.
Sources tell the Boston Globe that the Krafts and city and state officials have been meeting about possible sites for a soccer stadium in the city, with the team focusing on a site on Frontage Road in Dorchester.
“We are currently developing concepts for how a soccer stadium for the Revolution can benefit the greater Boston area. Once we have more developed plans, we will comment further,” a spokesman for the Krafts told the Globe.

The effort to bring the Revolution closer to Boston is certainly not the first attempt to move the MLS team out of Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. Efforts to construct a stadium in Boston, Somerville, and Revere over the have fallen flat over the years with the team remaining in the cavernous NFL stadium.
The location is also adjacent to an area that has been identified as a potential spot for an Olympic Stadium in the city’s bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Kraft’s timeline for a stadium however, may conflict with that of groups attempting to bring the Olympics to Boston. A source told the Globe that the timeline for a new soccer stadium is five years.

Also possibly competing for the spot is a new homeless shelter that would replace a recently condemned facility on Long Island. A spokeswoman for Mayor Martin J. Walsh said that a proposal to use a city-owned site would be subject to a bidding process and reviews by public agencies.
The news comes as the Revolution continue their hot streak which started in August with the signing of defensive midfielder and U.S. International Jermaine Jones. Since the signing of Jones, New England went 8-1-1 in the regular season and blew past the Columbus Crew 7-3 on aggregate goal in the MLS Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. The Revolution will compete in leg 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena in Newark, NJ on Nov. 23.
