Malcolm Butler Signs Restricted Free Agent Tender

Butler has signed a new deal with the Patriots, but a trade could happen.

Malcolm Butler will remain a member of the New England Patriots.

The team announced Tuesday that cornerback has signed a new deal. The terms were not announced, but is reported to be $3.91 million tender, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.

While Butler has signed the deal, a trade could still be on the table, with New Orleans being the most likely landing spot. Butler's fate is likely to be known by the end of the month.

The 27-year-old is three-year-veteran who joined the team in 2014. He has played in 43 regular season games with 33 starts, including starts in all 16 games over the last two seasons. He has accumulated 135 total tackles, six interceptions, 35 passes defensed, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. In addition he has played in eight postseason games with five starts and has registered 27 total tackles and his first interception on the goal line to secure Super Bowl XLIX.

Butler earned his first Pro Bowl invitation following the 2015 season.
