FOXBOROUGH, MA — Foxborough's newest selectmen is a familiar face. Former police chief Edward O'Leary was elected to the Board of Selectmen on Monday night, signaling his return to public service after retiring as police chief in 2016. O'Leary was at the helm of the Foxborough Police Department for 31 years.
The election was uncontested, but that doesn't mean residents shouldn't know where their elected officials stand, especially before town Meeting on Monday, May 13. At Foxboro Cable Access's candidates night on April 26, Foxborough Patch had a chance to catch up with O'Leary and ask some questions readers submitted. Check out his answers in the videos below. 1. Given the recent boom in home buildings, multi-developments, condos, and apartments, are there ways the Board of Selectmen can collaborate with the planning board to protect open space and the town's natural resources?

2. Other town around like Mansfield and others town in Norfolk County like Needham have taken action to more directly recognize women serving in office by changing their name from selectmen to select board. Is this something you believe is necessary or would consider if someone proposed it?

3. Recently, there has been a very public difference of opinion between the town manager and the budget advisory committee. What are your thoughts on this and do you think the advisory committee is correct to assert itself in opposition to some aspects of the fiscal year 2020 budget?
