FOXBOROUGH, MA - The group responsible for several restaurants in Boston and Foxwoods Casino is bringing their newest project to Foxborough.

Recently, the selectmen voted to give Big Night Entertainment a liquor license for their new restaurant at Patriot Place known as the Scorpion Bar. The Mexican restaurant is set to take the space formerly occupied by Hollister.

The license is contingent on the board reviewing the final drink menu to check that it’s in compliance with the town’s liquor laws.

Group founder Edward Kane told the board that his company operates Shine, High Rollers, and Red Lantern at Foxwoods and Gem, Empire, and a second restaurant named Red Lantern in Boston. A separate company owned by Kane operates Stars of Hingham Harbor in Hingham.

The Foxborough location will be the second Scorpion Bar. The original is located at Foxwoods, but Kane is looking towards his Hingham venture as a model.

“(Hingham’s) much more like this community here than what we do in Boston. We’re more involved in community events in Hingham,” Kane said.

“In Hingham, our success is based on repeat customers. We see this as an opportunity to test that brand and get people to come back.”

Town Manager Bill Keegan called the presentation one of the more detailed ones he’s seen in his career.

“It’s quite exciting to see this because we’re going to the next level of restaurants at Patriot Place. I will tell you this is a new level,” Keegan said.

Chairman David Feldman noted that the group does have violations for serving to minors, but Kane said that was an issue in the Boston restaurants related to fake IDs. He told the board that the problem was resolved with the purchase of ID scanners for all of his restaurants. A top of the line machine will be at their Foxborough location.

“That’s why we went to the machine. It’s a very difficult game. We would serve 1,000s of people. If you look at our history in Hingham, you’ll see zero. It’s more community folks, people you’ll see often. On game day we’ll have to be more diligent and we’ll have the machine at the door,” Kane said.

Co-founder Randy Greenstein is slated to be the manager and will work full time at the establishment.

The Scorpion Bar is aiming to open in late August.
