Patriots Agree to Trade for Colts Tight End: Report

The Patriots will reportedly add a tight end to their roster.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — With less than a day before NFL teams can sign and trade players, a new report says the New England Patriots have a deal ready to go with a long-time rival.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that tight end Dwayne Allen will be traded to from the Indianapolis Colts to the Patriots.

Allen, who has played five seasons in Indianapolis, played 14 games in 2016. He made 35 receptions for 406 years and six touchdowns.

The trade could be a sign that Martellus Bennett's time in Foxborough is done. Bennett reportedly wanted $9 million per year, a number that's considered to be too high for the Patriots.

Allen confirmed on Twitter that he's moving to New England, thanking the Colts for the opportunity.

"I'm both humbled and excited for the challenge ahead of earning the right to be called a New England Patriot," Allen wrote.

Teams can start signing and trading players Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
