Patriots Blocked at Goal Line, Lose to Seahawks 31-24

The Pats fell to 7-2 Sunday night.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Like Super Bowl LXIX, Sunday night's game came down to one play right at the goal line. The difference, however, was that it was the Patriots trying to make a play and Seattle preventing the score in the 31-24 defeat at Gillette Stadium.

New England is now 7-2 while Seattle improves to 6-2-1.

It took one drive for the Patriots to score the game's opening touchdown, getting into scoring position on a 22-yard pass to Rob Gronkowski. The tight end got the Patriots down to the one after drawing a pass interference penalty in the end zone.

With the Patriots unable to get anything going for the rest of the quarter, the Seahawks kicked another field goal and took a 12-7 lead on a six-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Doug Baldwin with 10:52 remaining in the first half. The extra point was blocked

The gmae didn't get any better for the Patriots on the next drive. After receiving new life following a reversed call on an initially ruled-fumble by Gronkowski, Brady tried to do a bit too much and threw his first interception of the season.

Late in the first half, Blount made it clear that he really wanted to get into the end zone from the one-yard line.

The lead would be short lived as a pass to Baldwin gave Seattle a 19-14 lead at the half.

After forcing a three-and-out, New England took back the lead on a 13-yard Blount run, giving the running back his third touchdown of the night.

Seattle continued to put points on the board, but once again settled for a field goal with 2:52 left. Despite taking a 22-21 lead with 2:52 left in the third quarter, one could think that the Seahawks were leaving points on the board, with five of their scoring plays by that point consisting of three field goals.

The Patriots returned to field goal range with Martellus Bennett leading the Patriots down the field on a xx yard catch and run.

The drive nearly appeared to stall on the Seahawks 42-yard line but a 33-yard catch by Julian Edelman placed New England on the nine

The Patriots were forced to settle for a field goal and a 24-22 lead following a one-handed sack by Frank Clark.

Like the Patriots on the previous drive, the Seahawks offense got down the field thanks to a perfect throw, this time from Wilson to CJ Prosise.

Seattle couldn't find the end zone, kicking a field goal and taking a 25-24 lead with 8:59 to play. The Seahawks again scored after recovering a Julian Edleman fumble, extending the lead to seven on Baldwin's third touchdown catch of the night. The two point conversion with 4:24 left was no good.

Down by a touchdown with less than a minute to play and on the one yard line, the Patriots were denied on a pair of Brady sneaks and a Blount run. Down to one play with 14 seconds left, a fade to Gronkowski was incomplete, but left some Patriots fans calling for a flag.

New England travels to San Francisco next Sunday.
