Patriots Malcolm Mitchell, Derek Rivers Surprise Boyden Library

The two members of the New England Patriots were special mystery readers in the children's department Monday afternoon.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Kids at the Boyden Library knew that someone from the New England Patriots was coming to read a story and sign autographs, but the question was who would appear in the children's department Monday afternoon.

A sign at the front desk welcoming Malcolm Mitchell gave it away, but the second surprise came a short time later when kids learned that Derek Rivers would join his teammate. The two spent about an hour at the library reading and signing autographs for kids.

Mitchell read "The Magician's Hat," a book he wrote in college. In addition to playing football, Mitchell writes children's book and earlier this year, he signed a three-book deal with Scholastic.

Rivers read the popular "Let's Go Patriots," which requires the chanting of the title and more noise than the library has seen on most days.

After reading, the two signed autographs for everyone in attendance.
