Patriots Trade Back, Select Christian Gonzalez In 2023 NFL Draft

The Patriots traded the 14th pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers before picking Christian Gonzalez with the 17th selection.

KANSAS CITY, MO — There was a delay in the New England Patriots making a pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Pats traded the 14th pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for the 17th pick and a fourth-round pick.

Once they did select a player, the Patriots chose cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who most recently played for the University of Oregon after transferring from Colorado.

The Patriots didn't elect to draft a quarterback at 17 despite some rumors that the team was considering a move up and a move away from quarterback Mac Jones.

There are still two days and six rounds remaining in the 2023 draft. Here's what to know for the rest of the event:

When Does The Next Round Start?

  • Rounds 2 and 3, Friday starting at 7 p.m.
  • Rounds 4 through 7, Saturday starting at 12 p.m.

According to the NFL, the draft will be shown on NFL Network, ESPN, ABC and ESPN Deportes.
