Demaryius Thomas Signed By Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, MA — The New England Patriots bolstered their wide receiver corps Tuesday, signing Demaryius Thomas. The former Denver Bronco signed a one-year, $6 million deal, ESPN's Field Yates reported. The signing unites Thomas, 31, with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who drafted Thomas in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft when he was the head coach of the Broncos.

If Thomas makes the team, he instantly adds to a receiving group lacking experience outside of Julian Edelman.

From 2012-2016, Thomas had five straight seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards, catching most of those passes from future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning. Although Thomas has battled injuries and his numbers have declined the last two seasons, he'll get another chance to reignite his career playing with another future Hall of Fame quarterback in Tom Brady.

Thomas spent the first eight-and-a-half years of his career with the Broncos before being traded to the Houston Texans just before last season's trade deadline.

He suffered a season-ending injury when he tore his Achilles in late December and was released by the Texans in February. Days later, he was arrested and charged with vehicular assault after police said he crashed his sport utility vehicle while driving nearly twice the speed limit in downtown Denver. Two passengers in his vehicle were injured, which police said warranted the assault charge.
