Patriots vs. 49ers: What You Need to Know

The New England Patriots will attempt to get back in the win column this week when they travel to face the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. This week’s game will be the Patriots’ first-ever game at Levi’s Stadium, which opened in 2014. It will be the Patriots first game at the 49ers since a 30-21 win at Candlestick Park on Oct. 5, 2008, New England’s only win at San Francisco.

A victory over the 49ers will give the Patriots its eighth win of the year and guarantee a finish with a record of .500 or better for the 16 consecutive year. Each of the other 31 NFL teams has had at least one losing season since 2001.

Broadcast Information

TELEVISION: This week’s game will be broadcast by CBS and can be seen locally on WBZ-TV Channel 4 in Boston. Greg Gumbel will handle play-by-play duties with Trent Green as the color analyst. Jamie Erdahl will work the sidelines. The game will be produced by Jim Rikhoff and directed by Suzanne Smith.

NATIONAL RADIO: This week’s game will be broadcast to a national audience on Westwood One Sports and Compass Media Networks . Tom McCarthy and Mark Malone will call the game for Westwood One while Chris Carrino and Brian Baldinger will handle broadcast duties for Compass Media.

The New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers will meet for the 13th time in their history. The two teams last played met in a Sunday Night Football game on Dec. 16, 2012, with San Francisco pulling out a 41-34 victory at Gillette Stadium. This week’s game will be the Patriots’ first-ever game at Levi’s Stadium, which opened in 2014. It will be the Patriots first game at the 49ers since a 30-21 win at Candlestick Park on Oct. 5, 2008, New England’s only win at San Francisco. The Patriots are 1-4 as the visiting team against San Francisco. The Niners hold a 8-4 lead in the series, but the Patriots have won three of the last four meetings.

The matchup will be a battle between the team of the 2000s and the team of the 1990s. The New England Patriots’ 126 wins in the 2000s is the all-time best mark for a decade in NFL history. In the 1990s, San Francisco had 122 wins, which was the third best record for a decade in NFL history.
