Patriots vs. Jets: What You Need to Know About the Week 12 Showdown

The New England Patriots return to AFC East play following two games against NFC teams when they travel to face the New York Jets in the first of two meetings this season. The Jets will travel to face the Patriots on Saturday, Dec. 24th.

A victory on Sunday will give the Patriots a winning season for the 16th straight year, tying the San Francisco 49ers (1983-98) and the Dallas Cowboys (1970-85) for the most consecutive winning seasons since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger. A win would also give New England its 31st winning season since the 1970 merger to tie Dallas for second, behind the 33 winning seasons by Pittsburgh during that time.

Kickoff

Originally a Sunday night game, the match has been flexed out of the prime time slot and into a 4:25 p.m. kickoff.

Broadcast Information

TELEVISION: This week’s game will be broadcast by CBS and can be seen locally on WBZ-TV Channel 4 in Boston. Greg Gumbel will handle play-by-play duties with Trent Green as the color analyst. Jamie Erdahl will work the sidelines. The game will be produced by Jim Rikhoff and directed by Suzanne Smith.

NATIONAL RADIO: This week’s game will be broadcast to a national audience on ESPN Radio. Adam Amin and Chris Canty will call the game. Sal Paolantonio will work the sidelines.

Series History

The Patriots and Jets will meet for the 115th time, including three postseason games, since the series between the AFC East rivals began in 1960. It will be the first meeting of the 2016 season. The Patriots will host the Jets at Gillette Stadium on Sat., Dec. 24.

Last season, the two teams split the series with the Patriots taking a 30-23 win at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 25, before losing 26-20 in overtime in the rematch at MetLife Stadium on Dec. 27.

The Patriots lead the series, 59-54-1 overall.

The Patriots are 32-25-1 all-time against the Jets at home, including 1-1 at home in the postseason.

The Patriots are 27-29 all-time on the road against the Jets, including 3-3 at MetLife Stadium.

The teams have played in the postseason three times – a 1985 Wild Card game, a 2006 Wild Card game and an AFC Divisional game in 2010. New England beat the Jets, 26-14, in 1985 at the Meadowlands on their way to Super Bowl XX. In 2006, the Patriots defeated the Jets, 37-16, at Gillette Stadium and the Jets beat the Patriots, 28-21, in the 2010 Divisional playoff game.

New England is 30-16 against the Jets since Robert Kraft purchased the team in 1994.

New England’s 59 overall victories over the Jets (including two playoff wins) are the second most over any single opponent, trailing only Buffalo with 70 all-time wins.
