Revived Committee to Focus on Business in Foxborough

The selectmen recently discussed reviving the Economic Development Committee.

The selectmen are hoping to revive a dormant town committee to promote business in Foxborough.

On Tuesday, the selectmen discussed ways to revive the economic development committee; a nine-person group created in 2000 but is currently inactive.

Bill Keegan said they are looking for candidates with experience and expertise in engineering, legal, finance, marketing, real estate, and construction.

During the meeting, an interest statement was discussed and revised by Selectman David Feldman, who said the strategy for the committee should be built off the statement.

The board also stressed that any plan should address the current businesses in Foxborough first.

“You want existent businesses to grow and flourish. What’s more important, saving 100 jobs or retaining 100 jobs? I think it’s more important to retain 100 jobs and have those businesses grow, it’s a lot easier to do that than to bring in outside companies,” Feldman said.

The selectman added that while the town has more sewer capacity than in the past, the infrastructure is not yet there.

Regionally, the Tri-County Chamber of Commerce has expressed interested in doing a marketing piece for Foxborough and the region.

Those interested in joining the committee should send a letter of interest and resume to Town Hall by June 1. Questions can be directed to the town manager’s office and the planning board.
