RI Man With Kids In Car Leads Foxborough Cops On Chase: Police
A Pawtucket man riding with his two children led Foxborough police on a chase down Route 1 through Wrentham and Cumberland, police said.
FOXBOROUGH, MA — A Rhode Island man was ordered held without bail Wednesday after police said he led officers on a chase in Foxborough earlier this month. Jonathan Cleveland, 49, was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, failing to stop for police, reckless endangerment of a child and driving with a revoked license as a habitual traffic offender, The Sun Chronicle reported. Cleveland's two children were in his vehicle during the chase, police said.
According to police, an officer pulled over Cleveland May 20 around 9 p.m. at the America's Best Value Inn on Route 1 because of a registration issue with his car. Police said the chase started after Cleveland tried using his car to pin the officer the building. Cleveland then led officers on a chasee down Route 1 through Wrentham and eventually into Cumberland, Rhode Island. While in Wrentham, police said Cleveland intentionally struck a police cruiser and drove at another, leaving a Wrentham police officer with minor injuries.
The chase ended in Cumberland after Cleveland pulled into a driveway and surrendered. Police told the Sun Chronicle Cleveland gave up because his car ran out of gas. Although police didn't know at the time of the case, Cleveland had his two songs, ages 4 and 6 in the backseat, as well as his girlfriend in the front seat, police said.

Cleveland pleaded not guilty, and given the no bail order, can be held for up to 120 days in jail. He's expected back in court sometime next month.
