Selectmen Considered Bringing Back Fmr. Town Manager Gala

Former town manager Andrew Gala was asked to consider returning to Foxboro on a temporary basis according to recently released executive minutes by the selectmen

Discussed on July 9, Gala was approached to be interim town manager with selectman Jim DeVellis suggesting that Gala be used as a consultant to help current interim town manger and town clerk Bob Cutler.

According to the minutes, support for Gala came from the fact that he was an experienced town manger that could hit the ground running. There was concern if he could do that due to the amount of time since his retirement.

Gala retired from the position in 2010 after over 30 years of service to the town.

Selectman Lorraine Brue however, objected because there would be an additional person needed to back fill Cutler’s position in the town clerk’s office.

On July 23, Brue said she met with Gala about coming in as a consultant. He said he would be willing to work three days a week at $100 per hour. 

Another option the board looked at was hiring a company to find an interim for the same cost for a 26-week period.

DeVellis said that he felt that it would take too long for an outside firm to be brought up to speed while Brue disagreed.

The board decided to stick with Cutler as the acting town manager, appointing him to the position for a period of three months with an adjustment in his salary for compensation for the extra work.

The agreement to make Cutler the interim town manager for the foreseeable future and the official departure of the now former town manager town manager Kevin Paicos was announced on Aug. 6

Cutler was originally voted as the interim town manager on June 25 after chairman Mark Sullivan, with advice from council, ordered Paicos not to return to work while the two sides worked on a deal for Paicos to leave his position.
