A Somber Goodbye to Danny Nickerson
Foxborough's Danny Nickerson was laid to rest Wednesday after a battle with a brain tumor.

It was in a Wrentham church that friends, family, and mourners said their final goodbyes to six-year-old Danny Nickerson.
The Foxborough boy, who gained notoriety with a request for birthday cards, arrived at the Parish of Saint Mary in a Wrentham Fire Department pump truck from 1926. On the casket was a message from his mother Carley Nickerson that read, “I love you my sweet boy today, tomorrow and always,” according to the Boston Globe.
Outside, mourners held red, blue, and green balloons before releasing them as the pump truck drove away.

Mourners at the funeral included officers from the area and two troopers from the Massachusetts State Police mounted unit were outside the church.
In 2013, Nickerson was diagnosed with a brain tumor known as diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. Last year, Nickerson made headline when a request for cards on his six birthday went viral, resulting in the young boy receiving over 750,000 birthday cards and other gifts such as merchandise from the Super Mario Bros. video game series, which Nickerson was a fan of.
