FOXBOROUGH, MA — Steve Belichick is set to leave the New England Patriots' coaching staff after 12 years for a new position at the University of Washington, according to multiple reports.

The news was first reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, who said that Belichick, 36, received an offer for the university's defensive coordinator role.

Belichick has served as the New England Patriots' defensive playcaller for the last four years.

Before that, Belichick was the team's outside linebackers coach.

Belichick worked with newly-hired University of Washington head coach Jedd Fisch in 2020, when Fisch was the Patriots' quarterbacks coach, ESPN noted.

The new position would see Belichick coaching for the first time for a team other than that of his father, Bill Belichick, who was the Patriots' head coach for 24 seasons.
