Syracuse-Maryland and Notre Dame-Duke Lacrosse at Gillette Stadium Sunday

Two Division I men's lacrosse quarterfinal games May 22 in Foxborough.

Gillette Stadium is a host site for the 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse quarterfinals on Sunday, May 22 with No. 1 seeded Syracuse University facing University of Maryland at Noon and No. 4 seeded University of Notre Dame taking on No. 5 seeded Duke University at 2:30 p.m.

Twenty-five New Englanders will take the field for the four schools, with athletes hailing from Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire.

“These are two truly great matchups that will be a treat for lacrosse fans in New England,” said event director Phil Buttafuoco. “It will be a great day to enjoy NCAA lacrosse at its highest level.”

Tickets, which are good for both games, start at $20 and include parking at Gillette Stadium. Parking lots will open at 9 a.m.

Fans can purchase tickets through Friday at the Gillette Stadium Ticket Office or via Ticketmaster. Group tickets (20 or more) can be ordered by calling 508-549-0178. Walk-up tickets will be available at the Gillette Stadium Ticket Office on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.

Harvard University will serve as the host institution for the event as it did for the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Championships at Gillette Stadium.

Gillette Stadium will be hosting its first NCAA quarterfinal competition. The 2008 and 2009 NCAA Divisions I, II and III Men’s Lacrosse Championships were played in Foxborough when three of four attendance records were established.  Syracuse University captured the Division I championship at Gillette Stadium in both 2008 and 2009. The NCAA has selected Gillette Stadium to be the site of the 2012 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships.

Teams:

Syracuse (15-1) will face Maryland after defeating Siena, 10-4, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse is 6-8 all-time against Maryland, but holds the edge in NCAA Tournament pairings, 4-2. 

Maryland (11-4) advanced to face Syracuse with a 13-6 win over North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Maryland is now 43-31 all-time in NCAA tournament games and is 13-3 in the first round.

Notre Dame (11-2) will face Duke after defeating Penn, 13-6, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Irish captured a 12-7 season-opening victory over the Blue Devils on Feb. 20 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Duke University (13-5) advanced to face Notre Dame after holding off No. 14 Delaware, 15-14, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Duke is in the quarterfinals for the 11th time overall and for the fifth straight season.
