The Sage School's Model UN Club Performs at Model UN Conference

The Sage School's Model UN Club's performance at the Greater Boston's Middle School Model UN conference at Northeastern University.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, twenty-four Middle School students from The Sage School attended the United Nations Association of Greater Boston’s Middle School Model UN conference at Northeastern University.  Representing Albania, Central African Republic, Cuba, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates, students debated such issues as water quality, food security, maternal health, and child marriage.  All participants stretched themselves to speak, problem-solve, negotiate, and debate. 

Several students were recognized for their level of participation:

Best Delegation, UN Women Committee: Miles Klotz (of Medway) and Jordan Dowd (of Medway) representing Albania

Honorable Mention, Best Position Paper, World Health Organization: Nadia Itani (of South Easton) and Ben Sheibley (of Bridgewater) representing Albania

Honorable Mention, Negotiation, World Health Organization: Sami Alves (of Mansfield) and Carson Straub (of West Roxbury) representing Thailand

Honorable Mention, Negotiation - Human Rights Committee: Monica Alves (of Mansfield) and Sophia Ling (of Norfolk) representing the Central African Republic

Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations meeting in which students act as delegates from the UN's member nations. The Middle School Model UN Conference is an opportunity for middle school students (grades 6-8) to experience Model UN. This Conference is open to all Middle School students in New England.  Over 450 students from the Boston area participated in this conference.
