The Sage School Theater Company Presents A Production of The Pirates of Penzance

The Sage School Theater Company presented a production of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance Junior at the Foxboro Orpheum Theatre.

On Friday, May 27, The Sage School Theater Company presented a production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance Junior at the Foxboro Orpheum Theatre located in Foxboro Center.

Wacky, irreverent and as entertaining today as it was when it first opened in 1879, The Pirates of Penzance spins a hilarious farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers, dewy-eyed daughters and an eccentric Major-General, all morally bound to the often-ridiculous dictates of honor and duty.

The Sage School Theater Company consists of 30 students in grades 5-8 who are members of the school’s Afterschool Theater program. This program is designed for students who are interested in studying theater more in depth under the guidance of Arts Department Chair and Performing Arts Teacher, Danielle Bazinet and Music Teacher, Jill Hogan. Students audition for speaking and singing roles, but many other students participate as members of the chorus and also work as set crew, creating sets and props to use during the show.

This is the third year the school performed the spring musical at the Orpheum. Last year, the school presented Alice in Wonderland Jr. and in 2009, Give My Regards to Broadway.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our students to participate in a full scale musical at the middle school level,” says Danielle Bazinet. “Having the opportunity to work with the Orpheum Theater is a wonderful introduction for them that may lead to future performing opportunities in secondary school and community-theater.”
