Tom Brady Used Rex Ryan as a Play Call Against the Bills

The Patriots may have a play named after the coach of the Buffalo Bills.

Peyton Manning may have Omaha as his favorite audible call, but for at lease one night, Tom Brady’s preferred call shared the name of the coach on the other side of the field.

During the Patriots’ game against the Buffalo Bills Monday night, Brady noticeably used Rex Ryan as an audible call early in the game, making many wonder why he used the name of the coach of the Bills.

“Yeah, we have a lot of things that are kind of in the playbook, so that’s one of them,” Brady told reporters after the game.

When told how unusual the call was Brady replied, “We’ve used a lot of things in the past. We have a lot of unusual terms. I think we run the gamut. So we’ve got to get creative and think of different things, so that one is pretty unique.

During his post-game press conference, Ryan was apparently not aware of the play call.

“He likes me, I know that. I was calling him Brady, too,” he said.

Unusual play calls are nothing new to Brady. In 2013, Brady audibled into a play named after Bill Belichick’s girlfriend Linda Holiday, yelling “Cougar! Cougar! Linda!” at the goalline.
