Town Meeting to Ask Voters to Approve More Liquor Licenses, $69.2 Million Town Budget

Town Meeting is scheduled for May 9 at Foxborough High School.

FOXBOROUGH, MA - 31 articles will be voted on when residents head to May's Annual Town Meeting.

At the top of the warrant will be the fiscal year 2017 budget. The town is asking for a $69.2 million budget, an increase over last year's budget that came in just under $66 million.

Drawing the most interest will likely be Articles 15, 16, and 17. The articles will ask the town to petition the state for nine additional liquor licenses. The requests are split into three articles based on location. Three are zoned for the downtown area, two for Route 140 between Foxborough Plaza and the Mansfield town line, and four for Route 1. A package store license was removed from the Route 140 area due to concerns from current license holders.

Article 30 deals with electrical aggregation and reads "To see if the town will authorize the Board of Selectmen to initiate the process to aggregate the electric load of interested electricity consumers within the Town of Foxborough and enter into agreements for services to facilitate the sale and purchase of electric energy and other related services."

If Article 31 is approved, the town manager will be authorized to enter into a lease of space on an existing cell tower at the Foxborough Public Safety building for the purpose of installing cell phone equipment.
