Walk for Wounded Veterans Makes Stop at Foxborough's Patriot Place

Marines from The Wounded Walk's "Mission: New England" are trekking from Maine to Connecticut to raise awareness for military veterans.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – On Nov. 10, a group of Marines began a 300-mile journey from Portland, Maine to Voluntown, Conn. to raise awareness and support for military veterans returning home with mental and physical wounds from service. Six days and more than 140 miles later, the group received an escort from Foxborough Fire and Police from Route 1 to Patriot Place and Gillette Stadium around 9 p.m.

New England Patriots Cheerleaders and team mascot Pat Patriot welcomed Sgt. David Pierce, Cpl. Ross Delafield, Delafield’s childhood friend Jeremy Lee and Marines Joel Connick and Michael Jefferson to the Renaissance Boston Patriot Place Hotel on Monday, Nov. 16.

The cheerleaders and Pat Patriot posed for photos, signed autographs and thanked the veterans for their service and the work they are doing through The Wounded Walk, a nonprofit organization that advocates for the advancement of post-combat treatment and support for mentally and physically wounded veterans. The Renaissance Boston Patriot Place Hotel provided the group with a free meal before they continued on their walk toward Connecticut.

“I’m learning a lot, I’m sharing a lot and I feel like we are making a difference, so we are going to keep it up,” said Pierce. “It’s nice to learn about people along the way.”

To provide these experiences for wounded veterans, The Wounded Walk has set a goal of raising $25,000 through its “Mission: New England” journey. For more information, or to donate to The Wounded Walk’s mission, visit www.thewoundedwalk.com or find The Wounded Walk on Facebook.
