Walpole Police Officer Airlifted After Crashing Cruiser

The police officer, whose name was not released, is still in the hospital​ as of Monday night, Police Chief John Carmichael said.

WALPOLE, MA — A Walpole Police officer was airlifted to a Boston hospital after crashing his cruiser.

The crash occurred Monday at around 2 p.m., on South Street. According to police, the cruiser was the only vehicle involved in the crash. Walpole police told WBZ News that the officer was lifted as a "precautionary measure."

The police officer, whose name was not released, is still in the hospital as of Monday night, Police Chief John Carmichael said.

"The officer is doing much better than earlier and in good spirits,"Carmichael told NBC 10 Boston.

The road was closed while officers investigated the crash. State police will continue to lead the investigation to avoid any conflict of interest with Walpole police.
