Water Rate Increase Approved

A 6 percent increase in the water and reuse rates and a 2 percent hike in the sewer rates were approved.

As expected, water rates will be going up in the near future.

On Thursday night, the board of water and sewer commissioners approved a 6 percent increase in the water and reuse rates and a 2 percent hike in the sewer rates.

The increase is the second in a year, with the previous hike coming in September, 2013.

With the rates approved, the board is looking to return to their original plan of 3 percent hikes every six months.

“We’ll probably do something in June or July so we’ll have a chance to look at where we’ll be in five to eight years but in the short run we should be more aggressive,” Chairperson Mike Stanton said.
