Write-in Campaign for Lynda Walsh Emerges in Selectmen Race

Some residents said they would use a write-in vote for Walsh in Monday's election.

Some residents are now encouraging voters to write-in former selectman Lynda Walsh in Monday’s selectmen election.

Traci Longa, the moderator of the Foxboro Discussion Group on Facebook, said she created an event for a write-in campaign for Walsh after a discussion in the group. In the event, Longa is encouraging voters to vote for Chris Mitchell and write-in Walsh.

“Lynda, like Chris Mitchell, is an honest straightforward person who loves this community and does all she can to serve it without any other agenda. We would be very fortunate to have them both at the same time,” Longa said.

As of Thursday morning, few members appear to have committed to the event and Walsh, who said she was honored by the action, said she does not expect an election win through a write-in campaign.

“I seriously doubt I would get enough votes to unseat one of our incumbents. However, if the voters of Foxborough speak through casting and I am voted in, I would humbly accept, for that would be what the town wants, and my heart always follows the wishes of the town,” Walsh said.

Walsh had pulled nomination papers for a potential run for her former position but withdrew plans to run after Chris Mitchell informed him of his intention to run.

In addition to Mitchell, incumbents Virginia Coppola and Lorraine Brue will appear on the ballot for the two selectmen seats. The polls for the May 4 election open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
