Since Dec. 15, 430 residents have tested positive, pushing the total number of active cases in Framingham to 660, according to local health data. Three more residents have died due to the virus over the past week.

Also on Wednesday, more than 7,800 new cases were confirmed statewide, a number not seen since last January. The rise in cases comes as the more contagious omicron variant has become the dominant strain in the U.S. after about three weeks in circulation, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Framingham has reached an important vaccine milestone with more than 75 percent of residents having received two or more doses. Health officials say getting a third booster shot can offer a lot of protection against omicron. Find out how to get a coronavirus booster here.
