Active Framingham Coronavirus Cases Now Above 100

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The number of active coronavirus cases in Framingham jumped to 103 on Wednesday, an increase of nearly 40 cases compared to one week ago, according to health data.

The rise in Framingham cases tracks with a wider increase across in the state along with the proliferation of the more contagious delta variant. Cases grew statewide by 1,368 on Wednesday, the highest daily number since April.

One week ago, Framingham had 64 active cases; there were 43 on July 28 and 18 on July 14, according to the health department. Framingham has not recently recorded any new coronavirus deaths, however.

The new cases appear to be trending younger. The median age of new cases reported between July 25 and Aug. 8 was 30, down from 32 in the previous report. Sixty-three of the new cases reported over the last two weeks were in people under age 39, according to the data.

The rise in cases comes as Framingham opens a new walk-up coronavirus testing site on Thursday at Saint Tarcisius Parish, 562 Waverly St. Local residents who want a test can make an appointment online.

Framingham has also brought back a mask mandate, requiring face coverings for anyone inside a civic building. That includes libraries, City Hall and the Callahan Center.
