FRAMINGHAM, MA — A $1.2 million infrastructure project in Framingham is still moving ahead, even with disruptions related to coronavirus.

Starting April 20, the Beaver Street Bridge will close to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic until the fall. Crews will be replacing the 80-year-old structure, which crosses Beaverdam Brook at the south end of Dennison Playground. Crews will also be replacing water and sewer infrastructure and building new sidewalks.

The vehicle detour will travel along Leland and Irving streets, and Blandin Avenue. There will still be access near the bridge on either side of Leland Street and Blandin Avenue, but will be restricted to local traffic only. Pedestrians will detour around the bridge using Beaver Park Road and Taralli Terrace.

Framingham was set to hold a public meeting about the project on March 19, but that was cancelled due to coronavirus. In lieu of the meeting, Framingham has created a video giving an overview of the project.

The 16-foot-long Beaver Street Bridge was built in 1922. The bridge has become so unsound in recent years that school buses and some large trucks can't cross it.
