Care About Framingham Trails? City Has A Committee To Join
Framingham is seeking volunteers for the Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Trails Committee.

News release from City of Framingham:
FRAMINGHAM, MA — The City of Framingham is seeking volunteers for the 8-member Framingham Bicycle, Pedestrian, & Trails Committee.
The Committee’s mission is to work to improve bicycling and pedestrian conditions in the City of Framingham. One of the goals of the Committee is to strive to create a comprehensive view of bicycle and pedestrian-related activities in the city.

The City Council increased the size of the Committee from seven to eight members in 2023, and added a seat for a Conservation Commissioner.
The Council also removed the Framingham Youth Council seat and now has the Mayor appointing a youth between the ages of 13-22 to the Committee.

The Committee now has two openings at this time.
One opening is for a youth member, between the ages of 13 and 22, to be appointed by the Mayor.
A second opening is for a Framingham resident, who is age 18 or older, to finish a term through June 30, 2024.
The Bicycle, Pedestrian and Trails Committee shall:
a) Make recommendations to protect, enhance, and preserve existing pedestrian oriented infrastructure throughout the City;
b) Work with city government to promote accessibility through alternative modes of transportation;
c) Strengthen civic engagement through connected neighborhoods;
d) Ensure sidewalks, bike lanes, and trails compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act; and,
e) Encourage healthy living through a more active lifestyle.

The Committee typically meets once a month on Thursday evenings.
The deadline to apply is Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
The Mayor will review applicants and then make nominations to the City’s legislative branch of government.
The City Council then has 30 days to act on the nominations. If no action is taken, the nominations take effect.
