10 Displaced After Fire At Windsor Green Condo Complex

The two-alarm fire tore through two structures and displaced 10 residents but no injuries were reported.

FRAMINGHAM, MA- A two-alarm fire broke out Wednesday just before 2 p.m. at the Windsor Green condo complex in Framingham at 171o Windsor Drive, leaving 10 residents displaced.

According to scanner reports, the fire may have started in a shed and moved to a pair of condos. Fire officials could not confirm that the fire started in the shed but did say the shed was severely damaged. Framingham firefighters worked from the roof of the building to contain the fire. Flames could be seen coming from the roof of the condo. All 30 on duty members of the Framingham Fire Department plus an additional 8 command staff were on scene. Crews from the Sudbury Fire Department joined Framingham crews was well.

Assistant Fire Chief Mike Dutcher said the Red Cross is working to accommodate the displaced residents and have found a place for just about everyone to stay. There were no injuries reported.Dutcher praised fire crews for containing the fire to only two structures.

Each apartment has individual smoke detectors and the two units affected by the fire did not have the detectors tied to the fire department's alert system. "It definitely had a head start on us," Dutcher said. There was significant damage to two condos making them uninhabitable, 12 condos were affected in total, according to Dutcher. He told the MetroWest Daily News that the fire left units 1710 and 1709 damaged by fire and units 1708 and 1711 damaged by smoke.

The Windsor Green complex is a series of two-story buildings. Framingham Public Schools warned that buses for middle school students ran late and elementary school buses may run 15 minutes late as well after Edgell Road was temporarily closed and reopened due to the fire.

The Framingham Fire Department took to Facebook to show firefighters battling flames on the condo roof. The department also tweeted a photo of one resident who was safely evacuated with her dog. The photo was taken outside of the affected area.

The fire was deemed under control 50 minutes after the alarm went off, according to fire officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
