Flu Hitting MetroWest Harder Than Other Parts Of MA: DPH
The highest flu activity in Massachusetts right now is in the MetroWest area, according to state health officials.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — Hopefully you already got your flu shot. Influenza activity in the area between Framingham and Worcester is the highest in Massachusetts right now, according to the state Department of Public Health.
DPH divides the state into seven regions, and the MetroWest area is the only one experiencing "high" levels of flu for the week ending Dec. 21. Flu levels in Boston and the immediate surrounding suburbs were "moderate," according to the state's latest flu update.
Taken as a whole, flu severity in Massachusetts is considered "low" right now, according to DPH. That measure factors in hospital and doctor visits due to the flu. As of the end of last week, the state had confirmed over 600 cases of flu by lab testing. That number is far below the total number of cases in the state because not everyone with flu gets tested.
