This week, Framingham Youth Football hosted their most hyped game of the season: the showdown against our longtime rivals Natick. Here is the recap of the D (5th Grade) team game:

Natick ran ahead with an early lead, scoring two touchdowns to start the first quarter. Seeing their bitter rivals do this, the Flyers wanted to get back in the game, and Timothy Sullivan had a long run to set them up near the end zone. But, the Flyers weren’t able to jump on this opportunity and turned the ball over on downs soon.

Natick then scored two more quick touchdowns on their next two drives, an 80 yard pass and a 40 yard run after recovering an onside kick. Before the half ended, the Flyers made sure to put some points up on the scoreboard, marching down the field and ending with a 7 yard touchdown run by Cody Coleman. The score after a half was 29-6 Natick.

Although the first half wasn’t very desirable for the Flyers, Framingham drastically improved their game in the second half. Coleman and Kevin Branch looked determined to reach the end zone, as their second half running was very effective. Coleman had his second touchdown on the Flyers’ second drive of the half, and Kevin Branch ran in the extra point to make the score 29-13 Natick.

The difference between Framingham’s first half defense effort and their second half effort was night and day, as the Flyers didn’t let Natick score a single point in the second half.

Jacques Cazeau did a nice job of clogging the line of scrimmage and making tackles, and Samuel Delaney had two back to back tackles for a loss in the foruth quarter, one with the help of Timothy Sullivan. However, the Flyers fell to Natick 29-13 in their final home game of the season.

Next week, playoffs for the A-D teams start, and the E1 and E2 seasons are over.

I thoroughly enjoyed covering games this year, and like many others, will miss the lively atmosphere of the weekly games.

Thanks to Framingham Youth Football President Chris Connelly, Vice President Jason Smith, and all FYFC board members, football and cheer coaches, players, parents, and other contributors/volunteers for coming together to make another great season possible.

Good Luck to all teams in the playoffs, and I really look forward to next season
