10 Framingham boys swim team members competed in the MIAA sectional swim meet over the weekend.

The Flyers, under head coach Ron Perriera, competed against more than 45 teams in the meet.

“This was the first time Framingham High has won this meet since 1994 and only the second time ever,” said Coach Shawn O’Leary.

“Runners up in the meet were Brookline (second) and Wellesley (third), said O’Leary. Both of those teams are from our Bay State Conference. That puts a lot of perspective on just what type of challenges we overcame to become the Bay State Conference champs this season.”

The Flyers remain undefeated on the season, with the state meet up next.

“Very proud!! We were front runners all season and a favorite on paper to win this meet. That expectation can create a lot of pressure for a team. Another team may have succumb to the pressure and underperformed. We performed our best in the brightest of lights,” said O’Leary. “Our captains showed tremendous leadership in and out of the water and the team swam inspired races.”

Members of the Flyers sectionals team were:

  • Senior captain Hunter Olson
  • Senior captain Kevin Silva
  • Senior captain Ben Cohen
  • Senior Damian Wong
  • Junior Matt Peck
  • Junior Giulian Santos
  • Junior diver Colin Tonkis
  • Freshman Cole Bassett
  • Freshman Eli Gazda
  • Freshman Aidan O’Leary

Besides the relay records, four Flyers broke individual school records, said O’Leary.

  • Bassett in the 50 freestyle
