Former State Trooper From Framingham Sentenced For Domestic Abuse
The man kicked, punched, strangled and raped the victim on multiple occasions according to the district attorney.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — A former state trooper and Framingham resident was sentenced on Tuesday to 10–15 years in prison for a series of domestic sexual and physical assaults on woman and fellow trooper. Robert Sundberg, 48, was found guilty in Lowell Superior Court on several charges including rape, strangulation, stalking and assault with intent to rape.
Sundberg began dating one of his colleagues in 2010 and in the years that followed, abused her repeatedly, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan. He would routinely monitor the victim’s phone and consistently questioned her communications with others. Sundberg kicked, punched, strangled and raped the victim on multiple occasions according to the district attorney's office.
On the night of April 22, 2016, Sundberg was convinced the woman was contacting his friend and tried to strangle her while she slept in their shared home in Boxborough, Ryan. He then attempted to rape her, according to Ryan.

Sundberg was arraigned in Ayer District Court on April 25, 2016. An investigation into Sundberg's conduct resulted in charges from six incidents of domestic abuse in addition to the April 2016 charges. Sundberg was indicted by a Middlesex Superior Court Grand Jury in June of 2016.
In addition to his state prison sentence, Sundberg will serve three years probation during which time he will have no contact with the victim by any means and must remain clean of drugs and alcohol. He will also have to complete a certified batterers program, undergo a mental health evaluation and comply with all follow up care, to register as a sex offender and comply with all conditions issued by the Sex Offender Registry Board including GPS monitoring.
