Framingham Youth Football 4th and 5th Grade Teams Face Wayland-Weston in the Chilly Air

Flyer D Team wins 25-12, E1 Team loses a close game, 13-6

Though some may complain about the chilly weather, football fans, players, and coaches all know that this weekend’s weather was perfect for football. On Sunday, Spetember 14, the Framingham Youth Football teams took the field in the chilly breeze to battle the Wayland-Weston Warriors. Here are recaps of the E1 (4th Grade) and D (5th Grade) Team games.

E1 (4th Grade) -

Though the Flyers started with the ball, the first half remained quiet until a Wayland-Weston touchdown run. The Flyer offense finally put some points up on the board in the second quarter when Jack Oliveira ran a long touchdown for his team. Framingham couldn’t convert the extra point, and the Warriors soon increased their lead to 13-6 after another touchdown run, this time a 60 yard one. Though Oliveira completed a great 11 yard pass to Sam Burgess, both teams played extremely strong on defense for the rest of the game. On a third quarter Wayland-Weston drive, two tackles for a loss by Brandon Fontenelle, one with the help of Devin Vieira, gave the Flyers possession and a chance to tie the game. But, Framingham fumbled within two plays and cough up the ball. Yet, Fontenelle came up big again on the next defensive series, recovering a fumble. Despite the extremely tight defense including great tackles by Oliveira, Manny Nieves, Mark Mobley, and Sam Burgess, the score would remain the same for the rest of the game, a very close 13-6 loss for the Flyers.

D (5th Grade) -

The Flyers didn’t hesitate to get ahead in the game, marching down the field on their first possession and punching the ball in on a 1 yard run by Timothy Sullivan. The Framingham defense then came out with energy, as Ricky Brita batted down a screen pass on the first play. But later in the drive, the Warriors went to the screen pass again and would this time score with it from the Framingham 38 yard line. The Flyers then jumped out ahead again, as Cody Coleman carried the team to the end zone with many long runs, and Sullivan got his second touchdown run of the day. The defense, highlighted by a tackle for a 10 yard loss by Brian Ronan, made sure that the score stayed 13-6 for the rest of the half. Wayland came out of the halftime huddle with an intent to stay in the game, and they did so, getting their second touchdown on a 39 yard pass. But a failed extra point allowed Framingham to keep their lead. Later, a sack by Damarion Perry and nice tackle for a loss by Jackson Zanella stifled the Warriors, and strong running by Coleman and Sullivan set up a third short Sullivan touchdown run. Although the Warriors could easily come back from a 19-12 deficit if they had good field position, the Flyers daringly kicked the ball onside, and Joseph Balboni of Framingham was able to recover it. The Flyer offense killed time on the clock, and the defense continued to play strong like they had been all game, as Casey Brewer had a 4th down sack late in the 4th Quarter. To seal Framingham’s 25-12 win, Kevin Branch ran in a fourth and final Flyer touchdown and Cody Coleman got an interception on the last Warrior offensive play.
