FRAMINGHAM, MA — Activists in Framingham will hold a rally on Wednesday if the presidential election results appear to be in jeopardy, one of dozens of "Protect the Results" events planned across the state and nation on Nov. 4.

According to organizer Amanda Shepard, more than 100 people had signed up to attend the Framingham rally as of Friday. The rally is tentative and would happen only if "Trump takes action to undermine the results" of the election, according to the event website.

Similar events will happen in Worcester, Sudbury, Franklin and in the Boston area.

Democratic-leaning groups are worried that President Donald Trump may try to claim victory in the election before all votes are counted, or try to diminish results that show Joe Biden leading.

On Sunday, Axios reported that Trump will declare himself the winner on Tuesday if he's ahead. But the presidential election may not be decided for days or longer due to higher numbers of absentee ballots cast amid the coronavirus pandemic.

If necessary, the Framingham rally will begin at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in front of Memorial Hall, 150 Concord St. Anyone interested can register to attend on the Protect the Results website.
