Framingham Coronavirus Death Toll Passes 80

Many recent deaths have been connected to senior living facilities in Framingham, according to health officials.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The number of coronavirus deaths hit 81 in Framingham on Tuesday, a 35 percent increase over the last week, according to health department data.

Many of the recent deaths — 12 since Friday alone — have been in connection to senior living facilities in the city. Six out of the seven deaths reported since Sunday were connected to those facilities, city officials said.

While deaths continue to rise, there are some positive signs that the pandemic is slowing down in the Framingham area.

The number of active coronavirus cases hit 762 on Tuesday, a nearly 6 percent decrease from the 808 active cases reported one week ago.

The total number of cases over the course of the pandemic hit 1,465 on Tuesday, about a 13.2 percent rise compared to May 12. That's a slower increase than the previous week, May 5 to May 12, when the total case number rose by almost 17 percent.
