Framingham Dems' First-Ever Endorsement Goes To Stewart-Morales

FRAMINGHAM, MA — At least one race in the 2021 Framingham municipal election appears to be breaking down along party lines.

The Framingham Democratic Committee this week announced an endorsement of incumbent District 2 Councilor Cesar Stewart-Morales, who is facing a challenge in 2021 from a local Republican party leader.

"He is a professional who passionately supports Democratic values at City Council meetings, representing and serving the diverse residents of Framingham very well," Democratic party chair Michael Hugo said in a news release.

Framingham Republican Town Committee Chair Jacob Binnall, 23, has stepped up to challenge Stewart-Morales this year. Binnall previously served in leadership roles with the Teenage Republicans of Massachusetts and the Teenage Republicans of New England. He also ran as a write-in candidate in the 2016 Republican primary in the race for state Sen. Karen Spilka's seat.

Stewart-Morales serves on the Framingham Democrats' executive committee. He was first elected in 2019, taking over for Pam Richardson, who did not seek reelection that year.

Framingham City Council elections — and all other city races — are nonpartisan.
