$3.4 Million MassWorks Grant Will Rebuild Framingham Intersection
The grant, announced Wednesday by state Sen. Karen Spilka, will rebuild the intersection of Edgell and Edmands roads.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham will get a $3.4 million MassWorks grant in 2020, which will help pay to rebuild a key intersection in the Nobscot area. The grant was announced Wednesday morning by Senate President Karen Spilka.
The grant will help Framingham reconstruct the intersection of Edgell Road, Edmands Road, and Water Street. The infrastructure upgrades will complement a proposed $43.5 million redevelopment of a mostly abandoned shopping plaza along Water Street.
The mixed-use development at Nobscot Plaza could bring up to 160 new units of housing, plus new retail spaces. The city recently rezoned the area around the plaza to allow for mixed-use development. The Nobscot Chapel, located at the corner of Edgell Road and Water Street, will be relocated south of the development.

"Nobscot is well on its way to becoming a vibrant neighborhood village through the collaborative leadership of Framingham's Department of Public Works, Community and Economic Development, and the Planning Department, as well as the support of the community," Mayor Yvonne Spicer said in a press release.
Framingham last got a MassWorks grant in 2017. The state gave $1.1 million to the city to widen the intersection of Marble Street and Blandin Avenue to make way for the Mill Creek development, which is still under construction.
