City of Framingham To Hold Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29
FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham will hold a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 29 in the Memorial Building at Nevins Hall at 150 Concord Street. The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which will begin at 11 a.m.
Nine Medals of Liberty will be awarded to Gold Star families in recognition of the service and sacrifice of their family member. The Massachusetts Medal of Liberty is awarded to Massachusetts service men and women who have been killed in action or who died as a result of wounds received in action
The City will also issue its first-ever Massachusetts Medal of Fidelity. This medal recognizes individuals with service-connected injuries related to exposure to harmful substances like Agent Orange and conditions like Gulf War Syndrome, in addition to combat-related mental illness.
Framingham Veterans’ Services Officer Kathleen Lang will oversee the ceremony, which will include remarks by Mayor Charlie Sisitsky and City Council Chair Phil Ottaviani Jr. Framingham Fire Department Honor Guard. Framingham Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, and members of the Framingham Veterans Council will participate in the ceremony.
The guest speaker will be retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Hal Griffin.
On display in Nevins Hall on Memorial Day will be quilts by Deanne Joy for all to view.
The Memorial Building will be lit up in red, white, and blue colors on Memorial Day night.
