Framingham Libraries To Host Face Mask Giveaways

In two upcoming events, Framingham library branches will give free masks to children and adults.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — We're beginning to learn that face masks might be one of the best ways to prevent the spread of coronavirus — and Framingham residents can get the potentially life-saving items for free.

On July 17 and 25, the Framingham library branches will be giving out free masks to children and adults. The city has been collecting donated masks for several months to give out in the community.

The first giveaway will happen Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McAullife branch, 746 Water St. The giveaway will happen again at the main branch, 49 Lexington Ave., on July 25 during the same times.

Face masks will be indispensable for some time to come.

On Thursday, Gov. Charlie Baker said the state's order on wearing face coverings will remain in place until there is no longer "an emergency" in Massachusetts. Children returning to school this fall will also be required to wear them.

On Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control urged all Americans to wear masks. The recommendation comes after a CDC study of a hair salon in Missouri revealed that two stylists who tested positive and worse masks didn't spread the disease to any of their clients.

"Cloth face coverings are one of the most powerful weapons we have to slow and stop the spread of the virus — particularly when used universally within a community setting," CDC Director Dr. Robert R. Redfield said in a news release. "All Americans have a responsibility to protect themselves, their families, and their communities."
