After Framingham Pedestrian Killed, Driver Facing 10 Charges
Framingham resident Devalter Marini Rocha, 54, was hit and killed while crossing a Worcester street early Wednesday morning.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — A Worcester man is facing 10 charges after he hit and killed a Framingham man early Wednesday morning. Devalter Marini Rocha, 54, was hit and killed near Worcester State University.
According to police, the collision happened at around 12:15 a.m. near Chandler and May streets adjacent to Worcester State University. Rocha was crossing the street when Ian McGrath, 23, of Worcester, slammed into him, police said.
McGrath was heading northbound on Chandler when he hit a parked car, drove up onto the sidewalk, reentered Chandler street, and then hit Rocha, who was walking in the southbound lane, Worcester police said. McGrath kept going and hit another parked car. He was treated for minor injuries.

McGrath is now facing charges of vehicular homicide by negligent operation, vehicular homicide by reckless operation, failure to stay in a lane, speeding, failing to wear a seat belt, failing to slow down for a pedestrian, operating negligently, and driving on sidewalks.
Rocha was one of two pedestrians killed between Tuesday and Wednesday in Worcester. A 66-year-old man was hit and killed by a driver at around 5 p.m. along Park Avenue. The driver in that collision is not facing charges, police said. A person in a car also died last night after crash in Leicester.
