Framingham May Add Precincts After Census Shows Population Rise
On Tuesday, the City Council will discuss a proposal by the City Clerk to boost the number of precincts.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham may add nine voting precincts following the release of U.S. Census figures showing the city added some 4,000 residents over the past decade.
The decennial Census is used by a guide to draw political boundaries and populations shift and grow. Under state law, municipal precincts and wards must contain roughly equal numbers of people.
Framingham City Clerk Lisa Ferguson has proposed creating nine new voting precincts, an increase from the 18 that exist now. That change would also shift the size and shape of City Council districts, according to a proposal Ferguson present to the Council in September.

Council Districts 3, 6, 7 and 8 would all shrink, and the remaining districts would grow, according to the proposal. Districts 2 and 4 would both expand the most at 2.83 percent and 3.19 percent, respectively.
