Framingham Mayor Unveils Union Endorsements Ahead Of Preliminary

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Incumbent Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer on Sunday unveiled a host of labor union endorsements ahead of Tuesday's preliminary election, where she'll face off against challengers Charlie Sisitsky and Carlos Valadares.

Spicer's new endorsers include the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4, the Heat & Frost Insulators Local 6, the Bridge and Structural Ironworkers Local 7, Plumbers & Gasfitters Local 12, Laborers Local 609, Boston Plasterers & Cement Masons Local 534 and the Framingham-Newton Building Trades Council.

Spicer was also recently endorsed by U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and the political arm of the pro-choice group Emily's List.

Spicer said her signing on a new wage-theft ordinance, which initially came through the City Council Economic Development Subcommittee, helped labor unions decide to back her.

"In my first term I partnered with several of our unions to sign a wage theft ordinance, and will work closely with unions in my next term to make sure that all residents have a chance to find stable, secure jobs with good wages and safe working conditions," she said in a news release.

Sisitsky, a former city councilor and selectman, has also picked up labor endorsements, including the Framingham firefighters union, the Carpenters' Local 336 and the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters. A campaign spokesman on Sunday said Sisitsky is working to finalize a few more labor endorsements ahead of the primary.

Framingham voters will go to the polls Tuesday to narrow the mayoral candidate field down to two.
