Framingham Mosquitoes Test Postive For West Nile Virus

Despite the positive test, there have still been no local human cases of West Nile Virus in 2025.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — A mosquito sampling taken in Framingham has found some of the pests positive for West Nile Virus, officials said.

The city was notified of the positive test on Thursday, which raised the West Nile Virus risk level in Framingham to "moderate."

The positive mosquito samples were identified by the MDPH Arbovirus Laboratory as part of routine mosquito surveillance conducted across the Massachusetts, officials said.

Framingham is among several communities across the state, including Natick, Holliston, Newton and Waltham, where the virus has been detected in mosquitoes.

There have been no human cases of WNV reported in Framingham in 2025.

The City’s Health Department is working closely with the MDPH and the local Mosquito Control Project to increase surveillance and implement additional mitigation strategies as necessary, officials said.

Spraying for mosquitoes is scheduled this week, and the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project has sprayed multiple times this year in the City of Framingham.
