Framingham Opens Cooling Centers During Burst Of Dangerous Heat

The cooling centers in Framingham will be open through the end of the weekend, according to city officials.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham is offering three cooling centers for residents during a stretch of excessive heat that will last at least through the weekend.

Framingham is under a heat advisory from 11 a.m. Thursday until Friday at 8 p.m. with the heat index predicted to reach 100 or higher. Temperatures will subside only slightly over the next few days, with the heat index remaining in the mid-90s.

Local residents — and service animals — can head to either of the two Framingham library branches or the Callahan Senior Center for air conditioning. Here's when the buildings will be open:

  • Main Library, 49 Lexington St. — Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • McAuliffe Branch, 746 Water St. — Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Callahan Center, 535 Union Ave. — Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
