Framingham Resident Dies Of Coronavirus, Cases Up To 36

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham reported its first fatality related to the new coronavirus, and the number of COVID-19 cases in the city jumped by 15 to a total of 36, officials said on Thursday.

The resident who died is a man in his 80s, but officials could not release any other details about him. Although the total COVID-19 case count hit 36 on Thursday, eight of those people have recovered from their illness, officials said.

The man who died had underlying respiratory problems. The Framingham Health Department has been in touch with people who the man may have contacted.

As of the state's latest updated on Thursday afternoon, 2,417 people across Massachusetts had tested positive for COVID-19, with 446 people in Middlesex County alone. Twenty-five people have died in the state, including two other people from Middlesex County who were over the age of 70 who had preexisting medical conditions.

The first positive case of coronavirus in Framingham came on March 11 when officials said a parent of a child at Potter Park Elementary tested presumptive positive.
