Framingham Schools Expect Enrollment Increase

As more students are expected to come in, the district is focusing on using the available space they have instead of building new schools.

FRAMINGHAM, MA- A demographic forecasting report predicted student enrollment in Framingham Public Schools would increase by 983 between 2014 and 2028, leaving the district to figure out how to accommodate the extra students.

Both Superintendent Tremblay and the senior demographer, Jerome McKibben of McKibben Demographics, agreed that the increase does not warrant the building of a new high school. Instead, the district plans to utilize the space in the existing school.

"We need to be mindful of the utilization of classroom space," Tremblay said. McKibben added that the high school can use portable units to temporarily relieve them since the enrollment increase is expected to be followed by a decline.

A TBA Architects study will soon give the district data on how to best utilize space in the high school. Tremblay suggested once the data becomes available to form a group to analyze the data.
