Framingham Schools Hire Director of Family and Community Engagement

The new director will replace Anna Cross, who retired in June.

Magaly Sanchez was recently approved for appointment as the new Director of Family and Community Engagement for Framingham Public Schools, effective July 2014, according to a press release from the Framingham Public Schools today, July 29.

Over the course of her career in education, Ms. Sanchez has held positions that have allowed her to capitalize on her communication and relationship-building skills to improve outcomes for students across the diversity spectrum.

She served as assistant principal at Francis J. Kane Elementary School in Marlborough where she maintained a sharp focus on engaging parents in the educational process, building community-based support networks, and implementing school improvement programs to drive student achievement. During her time of employment as an administrator within the Fall River Public School District, she served as assistant principal at Carlton M. Viveiros Elementary School and as vice principal at John J. Doran Elementary School.

She will be bringing experienced-based perspectives to Framingham Public Schools that have been developed at the district level as well as through her efforts in leading successful teaching and learning initiatives at the school level, said the press release.

Prior to becoming a school administrator in Massachusetts, she served as facilitator for student registration and assignment in the Providence School Department where she spearheaded key operational, information-management, and outreach initiatives that centered on improving departmental efficiency and establishing dialogues with parents and professional colleagues to ensure the achievement of student placement objectives. She successfully applied her communication, analytical, and administrative skills to put data-driven systems into place while supporting program implementation.

Sanchez served for six years as a member and officer of the Providence School Board.

Always active within the community, Ms. Sanchez is a long-time member of Quisqeya in Action, Inc. and has served as a trustee of the Community Preparatory School and as a board member of CVS Highlander Charter School. She has also been honored as the recipient of two Providence mayoral citations for community excellence, a Providence City Council citation for educational excellence, and the Margarita Cepeda Award in recognition of her professional achievements and positive influence on young Dominican women.

Sanchez holds a master’s degree in school administration from the University of Rhode Island and a bachelor’s degree in organizational communications from Providence College. She is also a graduate of the National Institute for School Leadership (NISL) training program.
