Framingham Shortage of Classroom Aides Confirmed in FY25 Budget Review
There is a major classroom aide problem in the school district. The FY25 budget fails to address that and it continues to plague classrooms.

The Framingham Public Schools keep struggling to hire quality classroom aides. This problem has been largely invisible in the FY25 budget discussions, but it was confirmed in City Council Finance Subcommittee discussions with the city Human Resources department on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Already 30 aides out of 270 budgeted have already left the school district during the year.

This problem manifests itself in multiple ways.

Then there is the silent suffering, endured especially by immigrant students who don't natively speak English. Their educational potential is being crushed every day by a lack of classroom support.
The worst thing in the world is when a budget review runs from start to finish with major problems hidden from view. Financial pressure on the school district coming directly from the Mayor's office and supported by the City Council Finance Subcommittee leadership of King and Cannon ends up preventing action on major problems.
